About us
Voice of Vaani
Voice of Vaani, music and voice culture academy, is a legacy passed down since 18th Century from Shri Muthuswamy Deekshithar, one of the "Trinity of Carnatic Music".
All lessons begin with a Guru, and our Educator, Vijay's began with Late Shri Veenai Venkateshan, the last known descendant of the R&D School of the great master Shri Muthuswamy Deekshithar, one of the three Carnatic Music Exponents known as "The Carnatic Music Trinity." Learning music from him was a blessing because he chose his students after a meticulous screening.
Guruji, Late Shri Veenai Venkateshan, was a very honest, simple, and straightforward gentleman who worked with many film industry stalwarts and holds a high regard. He was regarded as a University of Carnatic Music professor, and many senior musicians in the industry sought his counsel. He remained single, devoting his life to music. While his absence is a huge loss for mankind, Vijay, one of his few disciples, is making a concerted effort to preserve, teach, and spread this legacy that’s passed down from Shri Muthuswamy Deekshithar which focusses on the following important aspects of voice culture:
Voice clarity/smoothness, touching all notes in your range without strain
Improved lung capacity for breath control and stamina for Sadhakam/Riyaz
Increased voice depth and a glitch-free channel representing the Nabhi (abdomen), Hruth (chest), Kanta (throat), and Naasi (nasal) connection.
So, what’s Voice Culture?
Voice Culture is a body of knowledge that deals with proper voice production techniques. Music education and vocal training go hand in hand. The art form entails learning to sing a variety of ragas, compositions, and music extemporisation. It’s concerned with the proper way of producing one's voice and adapting it to various styles of singing. Although India's classical music system has contributed many exercises to developing the skill of singing, a thorough study of all scientific aspects related to voice cultivation, as well as the practise of technically developed exercises, will assist vocalists in analysing their own voice and manipulating the vocal apparatus for perfect voice modulation.
Voice culture makes the voice more flexible, allowing it to sing in all three octaves effortlessly. The students’ natural breathing capacity will increase, allowing them to sustain a note for a longer period of time and express a wide range of phrases, gamakas, tonal colours, and feelings through the voice. We also train them to reduce the impact of age on the voice by using the tone placement technique. The depth and range of the voice can be developed by controlling specific muscles and ligaments of the body's phonatory, respiratory, and resonatory systems. Negative aspects such as stage fright, anxiety, tension, and other problems can be eliminated by employing specific positive thinking techniques.
So, what’s VOV's Voice Culture approach?
Voice culture is a holistic approach that involves both the body and the mind. Indian classical music is essentially a vocal music-inspired tradition, and it is notable for its extensive use of microtones, which are inherent in the voice mechanism. At Voice of Vaani, we believe that voice culture is critical for a tradition inspired by vocal music.
Voice of Vaani provides a comprehensive solution for all voice needs as well as training in the most effective methods of voice production for professional singers, students, and teachers interested in Carnatic, Hindustani, and Film music. We also provide vocal music training to singers of all levels. Aside from traditional exercises, many specially designed techniques are taught based on the student's needs to increase the range and depth of voice, complete control of breathing, tone placements, and control over all octaves of the voice, and to overcome stage fright and related psychological problems.
